Welcome to Dream Interpretation for Dummies, where Dear Abby meets Native Americana. Come to the campfire, peer into the yawning grave, and take a dive into the collective subconscious… or maybe just explore some weird clown imagery. We’ll wait for you here.
Howdy Note: I have a Patreon and offer subscriptions to this newsletter now. Both options come with the same benefits, I just wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to sign-up!
EXTRA IMPORTANT HOWDY NOTE: In lieu of a dream this week, we have this! Next week we will have a dream, and then very very soon, A NEW SERIES OF SPECIAL GUEST DREAMS!!!
Dear Dreamers,
As our community grows, and as we approach the one-year mark of dreaming together, I’ve been thinking more and more about what this newsletter is promoting, what it means to give advice, the responsibility it entails.
So, if you’ll indulge me, let me lay out a few things for us. A roadmap of sorts, or a key. First off, this newsletter, and by extension, me, will never try to sell you consumerist spirituality. There is no magic bullet, no set of crystals, no specific candle you can buy that will bring you closer to Spirit, to your Guides, to the Ancestors, to God or the gods. Anyone who tells you differently is trying to put themselves between you and what you can learn, to act as a gatekeeper.
I am no gatekeeper, dear ones. I am simply a teacher. I have established my power and practice by careful study, hard work, my own Teachers, and continual learning, among other things. I hope what I give you empowers you, sets you on the right path, or a set of paths. I hope you can use it.
That said, crystals and candles and cards are useful tools, but tools are only what we make them. I have traveled this road for a long time, longer than you might think, and so I have my preferences, my favorites, but those things that work well for me might seem lackluster to you.
Which brings us to the second important note – this space is welcoming of questions, of exploration. In my private readings, I always end on a message like this:
“Readings and messages can often arrive with more questions than answers. This is an essential part of this process. I want to piece together the entire miasma for the querent, but that would do more harm than good. I can only lay out what Spirit has seen fit to share with you and then walk alongside you as you discover. I ask that you read this through, meditate on what is within, and then start thinking about what would be most helpful to hear from me. Don’t worry about limiting yourself here to what you think you should need or what is allowed – simply speak honestly and with curiosity and the rest will come.”
Try on many hats. See what works and what does not. Do not let yourself think that discarding what doesn’t work is a sign of failure – it is simply a lesson learned, wisdom gained. That should be celebrated!
And yes, with all our talk of the spirit, it can be easy to forget the body, but please, never forgo medical or practical advice in lieu of something I have recommended. Science isn’t infallible, neither is medicine, but one must take care of their body and their mind. I believe in medicine in conjunction with mysticism for myself, but one without the other would make my life very difficult indeed.
It troubles me to see the way that spirituality — mysticism, divinity, whatever you call it — is so often entrenched in salesmanship, in trying to gain a profit. In an ideal world, I could share this wisdom without the constraints of capitalism. But we only have this world. And I must eat, and seek shelter, and stay warm. Also, I don’t mean salesmanship as in charging for services such as the ones I and others do — as previously noted, we must eat! but those that are selling a quick fix, a miracle cure.
Do I believe in miracles? Sure. But I believe those are rare, almost impossible in the times we are in. And I believe in lots of things in a deeper way, dedication and honesty among them. What I’m saying, Dreamers, is that this newsletter, and I, we’re travelers, too. I know I have something to tell you. I know I have something to share with you. I know that I value you. I know these things, and I know I can see what you cannot yet see in yourself, but I also know that change does not come easy. And it can, but does not often, come quickly.
In that vein, I am here for the journey, the one ahead of us, that is. We have already learned so much together, my friends. I just can’t wait for what wonders are in store for us next.
Please let me know in the comments, or by email, or by dream, if I missed anything you would like clarification on. I’ll tack it on to the end of next week’s dream interpretation.
All my warmth, and see you on the other side,
Howdy
